Project: Light Rail Rapid Transit Grouting Program Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority

Location: Buffalo, NY

Completed: May 2001

The objective of this project was to seal 12,000 linear feet ofcrack and construction joints in NFTA’s six miles of doubletunnel subway system. Although the work schedule wasrestricted to 140 calendar days at 5 hours each day duringNFTA’s non-operating hours, Jean’s Waterproofing, Inc. (JWI) proceeded well ahead of schedule. Seeing this, NFTA’s representative’s elected to increase the contract linear footage by approximately 10,000 linear feet. This additional work was successfully completed by JWI ahead of the original 140-calendar day schedule. NFTA has since incorporated the use of polyurethane foam grouts to successfully stop water infiltration into their master specifications.
