Owner: Transit Authority New York City

Location: Long Island City, NY

Project: CQ032 East Side Access (Q-Tip)

System: Acrylate Injection at Re-injectable Hoses

Completion: January 2017

The “Q Tip” portion of the new tunnel between Queens, NY and Grand Central Station in Manhattan was under construction by Tutor Perini. Construction joints and minor cracks were leaking water into the new facility areas under construction. Re-injectable hoses had been placed during the concrete construction phases at many of the construction joints to mitigate leaks. Jean’s Waterproofing, Inc. (JWI) was called in to inject acrylate resin into the re-injectable hoses, and to drill and inject acrylate resin at joints showing leaks that had no hoses placed. After creating an injection program with WSP engineers, Gall Zeidler Consultants and Tutor Perini, JWI was able to use the existing injection systems as well as JWI systems to remedy the water leaks to the liking of the New York City Transit Authority and all involved.
